Fried Twinkies® with Fresh Berries & Cream Recipe
Snack cakes aren’t on my usual list of healthy treats, but it should make you feel better that berries have some nutrition, and that will make up for the lack of good stuff in the Twinkies®. Years ago, Twinkies were advertised as “wholesome,” and I assume people actually believed it. Maybe the definition for wholesome was different back then. Nevertheless, these buttery, caramelized Twinkies are fun, unique, and delicious.
1 cup fresh berries, such as sliced strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon butter
2 sponge cakes with cream filling such as Twinkies®
1/4 cup sweetened whipped cream
- Place the fruit in a bowl and sprinkle with the sugar; set aside.
- Melt the butter over medium low heat in a small skillet; add the Twinkies, turning them to coat all sides in the butter and lightly brown them on all sides, being careful not to let them burn.
- Remove the cakes to serving plates.
- Cover with the sweetened fruit and top with whipped cream.
