Holiday Affair
Connie, a widow with a young boy at home, makes ends meet as a comparison shopper, when she meets Steve Mason, a salesman at a department store, during the Christmas season. When Steve is fired when he refuses to turn her in to corporate, he decides to pursue her affections despite the chagrin of her steady boyfriend. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for in “Holiday Affair”.
· Timmy opens the box with the train when Connie calls him from the other room. He hurries and puts the train back in the box and places the lid on top. Part of the tissue paper is still sticking out the left side of the box. The scene cuts to Connie and back to Timmy and the paper is missing from the side when he puts the bow on the box and runs.
· Connie brings the box into the living room and sets it on the table near the door. The bow is near the wall while the other end of the box is on the sofa. It cuts to a right side view as Timmy slips off the sofa and the box has changed positions, with it completely on the table and the bow facing out. When Connie answers the door a few moments later, the box is back in its original position.
· Connie is talking to Mr. and Mrs. Ennis when she gets back to the apartment. She stands up when she’s telling Timmy he knows she’s not marrying Mr. Mason. Her hands are crossed in front of her as she fiddles with her ring on her left hand. It cuts to a closer view as they continue to fuss and her left hand is on her hip.
· Everyone is eating Christmas dinner at the table when Mrs. Ellis comments on Steve’s tie. In the farther view, Steve takes his tie out and is showing it to her. It cuts to a close-up view of Steve and it’s neatly tucked under his jacket.
“Holiday Affair” (1949) stars Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, Wendell Corey, Gordon Gebert, Griff Barnett and Esther Dale. It runs 87 minutes and is rated “Approved”.
